Originally built as a family residence by Jared Coffin, one of the most successful ship owners of his time, the three-story brick mansion was the first of its kind on the island. In 1846, The Great Fire destroyed over two hundred buildings in the Nantucket community. While a third of the community burned to the ground, Jared Coffin House withstood the flames.

Today, Jared Coffin House stands as one of the oldest New England inns, giving visitors a taste of Nantucket history and classic New England style that so many travelers know and love. It consists of the Main building and the Daniel Webster, located next door.
